Shopping in Milan: My Top 5 Fashion Boutiques

Milan’s Quadrilatero della Moda is known worldwide for its large stores, trendy shopping streets and beautiful markets, where you can find designer clothing and top-quality tailoring.

Let’s begin our fashion tour in the historic centre of Milan, in the hub of the city’s fashion boutiques and luxury shops, jewellers and designer showrooms. The sides of the Quadrilatero della Moda are made up of four streets: Via Montenapoleone, Via Manzoni, Via della Spiga and Corso Venezia.

The Quadrilatero della Moda truly sparkles. Here you can admire the shop windows of Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, Armani, Fendi, Tiffany, Bottega Veneta, Chanel, Bulgari, Cartier, Gucci, Gianfranco Ferrè, Valentino, Prada and more.

Here is a practical guide to the stores you absolutely must visit in the headquarters of Fashion and Luxury:

1- BEL Boutique, located on Corso Monforte, at the corner Via San Damiano, 2 Milan – Italy

BEL Boutique caters to the woman who appreciates contemporary style coupled with a metropolitan attitude. Her wardrobe has room for the charm of the 70s with its flared jeans, the brio of the 80s with its skirts rustling coloured feathers, and the bon ton style of the 90s with its essential aspect coats. She likes to choose laser-cut leather, lace, mesh, sculptural knitwear and trompe l’oeil prints. She doesn’t stick to the rules, preferring to follow her own creativity: she overlaps, contaminates and mixes an infinite series of aesthetic codes. She finds a fresh take on every look with versatility and eclecticism.

2- LA TENDA, three boutiques located in Via Solferino, Via Mario Pagano, Via Plinio, Milan – Italy

Where fashion meets style. For women seeking elegance and sophistication, the boutiques offer an exclusive interpretation of the best Italian and international collections of women’s ready-to-wear designs. They uphold the LA TENDA philosophy with a unique, refined and contemporary style, while being happy to host historic, talented and niche brands which offer their customers collections that are always original and deliver high-quality Italian craftsmanship. An absolute must for those on the lookout for the very best in Italian design.

3- BOUTIQUE 5, located in Largo V Alpini, 1 Milan – Italy

Boutique 5 specialises in women’s clothing and offers unique jackets, including tailor-made garments, put together with special fabrics. The expertise of their staff, their knowledge of the materials and tailoring skills make it a benchmark in the retail sector of high-fashion clothes and accessories. In store you will find clothes from the leading Italian and international brands. Their passion for aesthetic research, curiosity to experiment, attention to detail and outstanding design experience, are all part of the philosophy that guides Boutique 5 in the choice of garments presented to their clientele.

4- BIFFI BOUTIQUES, located in Corso Genova, 5 Milan – Italy

Rosy Biffi’s instinct, as well as the courtesy, care and passion of all members of the Biffi family, are the winning formula of this globally recognised and esteemed company. Research is the engine that drives everything that the Biffi group does, research carried out non-stop all over the world to discover young designers and seize new style opportunities corresponding to a specific concept of elegance: free-spirited, with the right balance of emotion and rationality. There has been a succession of unknown designers from Italy and abroad over the years, who have later become undisputed celebrities, including Kenzo, Yohji Yamamoto and many others. Without a shadow of a doubt, the name Biffi is synonymous with cutting-edge design and is a benchmark for Milan’s fashion industry.

5- LUISA SPAGNOLI, located in Via Monte Napoleone, 1 Milan – Italy

A perfect balance of research, innovation and tradition, a fresh approach to shape, and experiments with new styles are all part of Luisa Spagnoli’s philosophy. The products’ indisputable creativity and quality are the characteristics of a brand that, throughout the years, has paid the upmost respect to the synergy between past, present and future. Such continuity accommodates the development of models and shapes, allied with painstaking research into the principles of care that uphold the product’s values. It is a feminine approach inspired by the audacity and genius of the boutique’s founder Luisa Spagnoli. Just looking at or wearing any of these garments will make you feel the true value of what you have within your grasp.

Another of my other favourite boutiques in Milan also deserves a special mention: Amaranto Boutique.

Amaranto Boutique was inspired by the vision of Maddalena Grassi Polito whose passion and expertise underpinned the launch of this Italian and international showcase of elegance, style and originality.

The boutique provides an utterly unique experience, conceived in a way that pays homage to exquisite craftsmanship, reinforced by a passion for uncompromising quality in the selection and handcrafting of materials, without being overly influenced by the dictates of the mass market.

Being located within the Carlton Hotel Baglioni with an entrance on Via Senato and Via della Spiga, the boutique celebrates the spirit of Baglioni Hotels – the unforgettable Italian touch. Amaranto Boutique provides an overview of how Italian style has evolved throughout the world at the cutting edge of fashion and design. All items on display are authentically handcrafted.
