Cala del Porto: Your Own Private Beach in Tuscany.

When most people think of Tuscany, the rolling hills of Chianti probably come to mind, but the region is much more than this. The Maremma in southern Tuscany is dotted with beautiful medieval towns, set in thick chestnut forests and surrounded with green fields which stretch for kilometres. There are rugged windswept hillsides and gorgeous beaches.

Punta Ala is a jewel on the Maremma coast. There are sandy beaches, a magnificent golf course, wonderful boating facilities and much more. The perfect place to stay is Hotel Cala del Porto, the very first Baglioni hotel, founded by Lisa and Roberto Polito.

Cala del Porto is set high above the sea, with spectacular views of the marina, and the deep blue sea as far as Elba, Capraia and Corsica. The hotel has 37 rooms and suites decorated in exquisite style. Each room has a view of the marina, pool or garden.

Recently I enjoyed my second visit to Cala del Porto and discovered something I missed the first time…their private beach. Just 2 kilometres from the hotel (transport is provided) is the stunning Alleluja Beach Club.

Pretty bathing huts are set under trimmed pines leading to the sandy beach.

La Spiaggia restaurant at the Alleluja Beach Club serves delicious local and Italian dishes. Chef Giuseppe Angelucci believes in finding the best ingredients possible and creating simple but unforgettable dishes for guests to enjoy.

A brand new development has just opened beside La Spiaggia. La Vela Beach Club is a wonderful addition to the hotel’s facilities. It features a wellness centre with Turkish bath, massage treatment room and fitness centre. It has a bar terrace with panoramic views and a restaurant with pizza oven. Delicious sushi will be featured on the menu.

Once again, apart from all these amazing facilities, the very best thing about Cala del Porto is the friendly staff. Everything is done with quiet efficiency. Guests are treated as friends, which explains why so many return each year to this beautiful place.

Concierge tip: Why not try the Beach Inclusive Deal when booking your stay at Hotel Cala del Porto? Hurry though because the tempting experience enjoyed by Debra is only available for a few months every year.
